I think its fair for people to move on to newer opportunities but I just dont get it why they cant leave properly! Are we Indians an uncivilized lot when it comes to professional ethics?

Re: Lessons learnt from dealing with a rogue startup employee in India

Sharing story about an employee at my startup - This guys did not have a degree, was an excellent programmer and hence I hired him. For 2 years he worked with me on various things. During that time he took long leaves to get a degree, clear papers and we supported him no matter what. Never prioritized against his education. He finally got his degree in march 11 2011. After that he took 3 days unplanned leave, gave 4 interviews in Pune got a job offer. On 18th march he came to office and said he wants to resign and that today should be his last date. We were supposed to go live with prolinkd in 2 more days and he was responsible for entire front end. I asked him to postpone last day by at least a week and he said his new employer wont let him join unless he took speech therapy classes which begin in couple of days.

So we hired a guy, who did not have a degree, extremely poor academics and plus stammering problem, just because we only look for good programming skills. And this is how we were repaid. Welcome back to India. :)

Re: Why PayPal does not work for Indian eCommerce merchants?

ZaakPay is much better than CCAvenue, EBS, BillDesk etc. First of all, ZaakPay supports recurring billing (bread and butter of a SaaS company), secondly they are easier to integrate than others like ICICI, CitiBank etc., and third they are very low cost. In fact, I was willing to pay much higher to ZaakPay. Rs. 500/month is almost nothing. I intend to use ChargeBee with ZaapKey this month.

Re: How do I get started with Webpay?

webpay is the best options for payment

Re: How do I get started with Webpay?

Excellent effort

Re: Why PayPal does not work for Indian eCommerce merchants?

You can use Zaakpay! However, when it comes to implementing policy it does not pan out as imagined. I dont have to look far. After the 1989-90 violence in J&K, many Kashmiri Pandit families migrated to other parts of India. Maharashtra state came up with a reservation policy for college admissions to benefit Kashmiri migrant students. I know at the least a hundred Kashmiris who were not migrants (were residing prosperously in other parts of India before the violence in J&K began) who went to Jammu to get a migrant certificate and then studied on the migrant quota college seat. Any reservation policy that has ever been tried has always been misused.

Re: Who are women entrepreneurs?

On your idea of reservation :
Reservation is meant to push/empower the weak. It is meant to help someone who did not start on the starting line, rather behind it. In this regard, it is only fair.
But when the basis of reservation cannot be justified or is twisted or incorrect, we begin to see problems of all sorts.

Re: Why PayPal does not work for Indian eCommerce merchants?

How Can I accept payments from Indian clients?
All the best! :)

Re: Online Payments Ecosystem & Payments in India

Upasana

All I can is, this is so insightful. Sad but true, the control is with a few players who seem to be too busy growing fat with arbitrage margins and providing what I can safely term as "Non Customer Service". If you are a Merchant, this is a headache and lord only knows how long before you get approved to accept payments.

The other thing is that the market we operate (ecommerce & electronic payments) in is about as mature as 1984. Both by way of merchants and by the Payment Gateway space.

The need for nimble and sharp firms to tackle the payment space is dire. Not just for us, but for the burgeoning SMB sector of India, heck even most of the large corporations.

All I can is, this is going to be a fun time and would be by far the best time to be present in this space.

Here's wishing you the very best and lets do something fantastic.

Regards

I use a lot of Indian workers and often paying them by paypal is an issue.

Re: Why PayPal does not work for Indian eCommerce merchants?

Upasana,

Sorry to inform you that you will not be able to go completely online and paperless in merchant signup process. That is simply not possible under current indian laws. This is the reason sites like CCAvenue have elaborate signup 'paperful' step, that includes signing stamp papers, and providing company documentation.

What are your thoughts on this.
